Ian Bourg

Role
Geology, geochemistry and water
Title
Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the High Meadows Environmental Institute
Bio/Description

Ian Bourg is assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering and a member of Princeton’s High Meadows Environmental Institute. His research focuses on the fundamental properties of water at interfaces and their impact on environmental systems. His research integrates atomistic simulations, laboratory experiments, and reactive transport models to understand how the fundamental properties of surface water influence geochemistry and mass fluxes in porous media. He is a specialist in geologic carbon sequestration, how geologic formations can trap CO2 in the subsurface over time-scales of hundreds of years.
