Ramanan Laxminarayan is a senior research scholar and lecturer at the High Meadows Environmental Institute (HMEI). His area of studies includes public health and infectious disease and the integration between the two in order to understand and address public health issues. In recent years, he has worked toward creating a greater understanding of antibiotic resistance, a growing global crisis. In 2014, Laxminarayan served on President Obama's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology’s antimicrobial resistance working group and is a voting member of the U.S. Presidential Advisory Council on Combating Antimicrobial Resistance. He is an HMEI Associated Faculty and is involved with HMEI’s Center for BioComplexity and its Grand Challenges Program
