The book was edited by Dr. Gabriele Villarini, left, who studies flood hydrology, extreme events, hydroclimatology, and climate predictions in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and at HMEI. It was co-edited by Dr. Gabriel Vecchi (right) the Knox Taylor Professor of Geosciences and Director of HMEI, and by Enrico Scoccimarro (not pictured), senior scientist of the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change.
As climate change fuels increasingly destructive hurricanes and typhoons worldwide, a new book provides essential knowledge and tools for understanding, forecasting, mitigating and responding to these devastating storms across the globe.
The book, Tropical Cyclones and Associated Impacts: A Global Perspective (Elsevier) is edited by Dr. Gabriele Villarini of Princeton, co-edited by Dr. Gabriel Vecchi of Princeton and by Enrico Scoccimarro of the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change, and features contributions from leaders across climate science, disaster response and the energy industry, the book provides a broad, comprehensive examination of tropical cyclones, including their history, evolution, impacts, and increasing strength due to climate change, which is expected to bring storms of ever-greater intensity over the coming decades.
